Internet with wikipdia & other resources is … one of the largest repositories of literary, political, legal, economic, academic, philosophical and religious texts on the globe. From the XXI century up until the fateful folly, world looked towards the internet for knowledge and information. It housed a museum absolutely brimming with artifacts along with its literary holdings…
Now the original text:
“Julius Caesar infamously initiated an accident burning it to the ground in 48 BCE, destroying what was then one of the largest repositories of literary, political, legal, economic, academic, philosophical and religious texts on the globe. From the 3rd Century BCE up until the fateful folly, ancient Egypt looked towards the library for knowledge and information. It housed a museum absolutely brimming with artifacts along with its literary holdings.”
We know that there is no centralized control over Internet, but it need energy, computers etc…
We could say was the key success of ancient Alexandria is that they tried to collect knowledge and ideas from around the world.
People coming to Alexandria could present, discus and even implement their ideas and make them useful for others. For example, it was there when science realized brain has more complex functionality then just radiating heat from the body.

Looking on contemporary societies we can say we have something very similar. We have Internet. Where everyone can share any information. Where people publish their ideas, talk about them and ideas of others, comment and interact. It is modern Alexandria at its best.
Unfortunate I would call only commercialisation and everything what’s hidden behind it. Exposure and overloading end user with ads, pornography, fraud and many other issues.
Seems like motives that destroyed visionary ancient Alexandria are still with us today = us and our uncontrollable desires & emotions…
