Quo Vadis (written by mankind)

Reading some of those articles and ideas in ”Abnormal psychological dependency and addictions” post I was maybe not shocked, but with eyes wide opened staring on this text thinking whatever is it so bad or so good that it left me speechless.

Isn’t that just rising questions? Is creating such “Virtual Reality Cue Reactivity” to utilize cravings just an acceptation of certain addictions or abnormal psychological dependency as acceptable behaviour?

Well my personal opinion we, as human kind, have two ways to handle this conflict between our esthetical creative and animal nature. Both ways are meant to lower or destroy importance of animal instincts in us. Maybe instincts not directly described, but evaluated (but related) basic instincts such us craving towards sex. This is such strong and important instinct we don’t even realize it. That is what drives people to up skill themselves, get better job, climb the ladder or wealth ness and social respect.

So we have choice to destroy our animal nature, or fed the cravings so they will not influence our actions. Only so they will not have primary reasoning of our actions.

It is incredibly difficult subject as it relates to most of human emotions, motivation and social interactions. Same way as 80% of our body is water; same way sexuality and related subjects are 80% of our personality (subconsciously and consciously).

It is misunderstood what is “normal” and what is not when we talking about addictions. Whatever it is porn, drug or anything else.  Is it was presented above:

“Drug addicts need increasingly larger doses to get high, porn addicts need to see more and more extreme material to feel the same level of excitement they first experienced”

Simple explanation of my point I am finding in food. We all have to each to function. It is pleasurable, we like it, but when our stomach is getting full, we are disgoussed and don’t want to touch food till its digested. That is how we used to operate as animals, and other animals are still functioning that way.

Now we all know, food was produced in so many diffrent shapes, forms and flavours that it is more diffiluct to stop eating, toghther with limited requirements regarding physicallity we getting fatter and fatter.

It is chain reaction of food manufactures trying to sell their goods, and making it tastier ever artificialy, and people trying to fed hunger.

Key is balance. What we didn’t learend that we are not artificial. We ares till those animals. We will eat as much food as we can, not thinking about consequences.

Same applies to additions. Other people have created drugs, alcohol or porn video as there was demand for it. But it turns not all humand demands should be fullfilled. Maybe some should be left just where they are?

It is our conveniency and consumptive point of looking on life. Again something from our animal nature.

It spreads so widly that we can say it is “The Devil” of our kind, and true civilisied humanity is “The God”. There we are, conflict so old as mankind, war between good and eveil. But it is not somewhere there in hell or heaven where it is all happening. It is happening here and now. Inside your head (or heart if you prefer), by accepting or doing something what hurts other people, by following your animal bacis instints.

Not saying they are all bad. Same as food is not bad, sex is not bad. But knowing when you are satisfied without going further and further under the pressure or influance from artificial stimulators is the key.

Such trivial but powerfull word – “balance”.

So how does it apply to VRCR and theory that legalizing artificial child porn could deter child sex abuse or porn cures premature ejaculation?

I would say it is way of conformists (described as Society’s Bitch. One who has to follow what’s ‘In’ in order to gain popularity and have a life). Following the article of Dan Jones “Conformists may kill civilizations“.

It might be good idea in terms of curing the symptomps, but not the cause. Well maybe it will sort out some problems in short term and small scale. But looking perspectivly it is just another “artificial solution to non-artificial problem”. Which could lead to drwaing the circle in mankind social evolution. Solution which is good, as human invention and technology, but it will be utilized completly diffrent way. And it does and will have opposite effects. Porn is only acceptable if used in appropiate doses as entertaining, same as one drink doesn’t make you alcoholic, but several does.

All this leading to destruction of addicted person, whatever the addiction is as it turns person into uncontrollable animal.  All addictions are dangerous and have same symptoms. Whatever it is drugs, alcohol or sex.

Lets assume for a minute that we would not be able to control some of our instincts. What would happen?

-Isolation and separation of small groups with very strong and sharp borders

-Total social and political chaos

-Aggression, fights and social dysfunctions

-Killing each others

-Rape and sexual assaults

-Cannibalism

Now you can see what huge benefits we getting for such small price of controlling  our instincts we are paying. We wouldn’t be where we are if we would keep doing whatever we feel like.

Diversion of the sex-related-issue is huge. We simply cannot put all of them in the same bag. You have to understand, maybe you just want to have sex like everyone else, maybe that’s ok, but someone else might be violent rapist, or serial murderer. If mutual laws are not implemented and strictly enforced, you would be treated same way as people with strong psychological, social or sexual disorders.

Looking at human evolution, we were able to reach certain level of intelligence because we were mixing genes for centuries. What allows mixing genes? Mixing different people, cultures, races etc into couples. It is proven that variety of genes allow to extract only the best one. That is natural way of evolution. Maybe not in small scale, but looking on 1000 years and millions or billions of people on the way, we did improve ourselves, just not enough.

It is all there; we just don’t know how to handle it. Maybe we did go wrong somewhere on the way establishing certain social and religious rules?

Maybe we are on the right path and just questioning unquestionable?

Who knows, time will show I suppose.

The only advice I could give would be my personal life-rule. Build from main message of many of the eastern and western religions. Maybe it is ok to do whatever you want, but only if  you not hurting anyone, expecialy yourself in any way. Of course it is not possible to do it all the way from your cradle to your grave, but at least I will be able to say on the end of my jurney that I did try.

Abnormal psychological dependency, porn, drugs, social networks maybe?

This is not public version of the article!

THEORY

The addiction behaviour complex (ABC) manifested by addicts does not depend upon the object of addiction.

Term ‘addiction‘ is often used to describe abnormal psychological dependency on such things as gambling, food, sex, pornography, computers, internet, work, exercise, idolising, watching TV or certain types of non-pornographic videos, spiritual obsession, cutting and shopping.

Psychological dependency is NOT equal to physiological addiction.

Sexologists have not reached any consensus regarding whether sexual addiction exists or, if it does, how to describe the phenomenon. Some experts, like Dr. Drew Pinsky, believe that sexual addiction is literally an addiction, directly analogous to alcohol and drug addictions. Other experts believe that sexual addiction is actually a form of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD see below)  and refer to it as sexual compulsivity. Still other experts believe that sex addiction is itself a myth, a by-product of cultural and other influences.

Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by a combination of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). Symptoms may include repetitive handwashing; extensive hoarding; preoccupation with sexual or aggressive impulses, or with particular religious beliefs; aversion to odd numbers; and nervous habits, such as opening a door and closing it a certain number of times before one enters or leaves a room.

To highlight the diffrences, for instance we can link drug addition to “substance dependence” and can be diagnosed as physiological dependence.

On the other hand sexual addiction is described rather as psychological condition in which an individual has an inability in managing his or her sexual behavior.  As mentioned previusly some sexologists prefer to call the condition sexual dependency or sexual compulsivity (connected to Obsessive–compulsive disorder OCD).

Substance addition was linked to “Brain-derived neurotrophic factor” also known as BDNF is a protein. Where there is no factors confirming the same link between BDNF protein function in human brain and Obsessive–compulsive disorder OCD.

PRACTICE

The therapists who treat pornography addicts say they behave just like any other addicts.

One of the key features of addiction is the development of a tolerance to the addictive substance. In the way that drug addicts need increasingly larger doses to get high, porn addicts need to see more and more extreme material to feel the same level of excitement they first experienced.

“Sometimes people are just going to it for things they wish they could do in real life,” she says. “It fills in a gap in their own relationship. They have a partner who doesn’t like to do oral sex and they love it themselves, and they’re in this relationship and they want to stay, so they go and look at pictures of oral sex.”

In this regard, porn can be part of a healthy relationship, she says, but in some circumstances it can hinder intimacy.

Legalizing child porn could deter child sex abuse: Study

Washington, Dec 01 (ANI): Researchers from University of Hawaii have suggested that legalizing child pornography could aid in reducing the rates of child sex abuse.

The findings support the theory that potential sexual offenders use child pornography as a substitute for sex crimes against children.

However, the authors do not approve of the use of real children in the production or distribution of child pornography, they say that artificially produced materials might serve a purpose.

Porn cures premature ejaculation?

Dr Yang Zhi Jian from a men’s health clinic in Singapore said watching porn films could even help patients improve their sex lives by learning new skills.

Another sex expert, Dr Yu Wei Siang, said the method could stimulate the production of male hormones.

Virtual reality cue reactivity

Virtual Reality Cue Reactivity (VRCR) is an innovative computer-enhanced methodology used to assess behavioral and physiological reactivity to drug and alcohol triggers (cues). Studies indicate that cue reactivity—a response to the presentation of various visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile cues—increases physiological excitement in addicts. VRCR utilizes virtual reality (VR) technology to stimulate cue reactivity in the most efficient and realistic environments possible; the intention being that coping skills can be taught in a contextual scenario that reflect a real world situation. While still in the early stages of development, studies have shown that VRCR is an effective means of generating a craving-inspiring environment that is tempting to a patient suffering from addiction.

Video chat on Facebook

After all, Facebook’s new messaging system is an attempt to make communication more seamless and synchronized across multiple platforms. It may very well be that video chat will be added to the mix or that Facebook is at least considering a Skype integration.

However, similar code was spotted all the way back in May 2009 and Facebook responded by saying it was testing such a feature but had no plans to launch it to users. The question of Facebook and video chat functionality seems less of an “if,” but more of a “when.”
